HP DVD1270 Burner

1866 Views 8 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  DogStarDon
I have Windows 7 - no issues there. I have an HP DVD1270 burner and trying to find out if it will burn dual layer discs. Also, it is several years old. Will it record blue ray? Should I upgrade? I take videos, photos and music and make movies out of them for fun. Thanks in advance!

I believe your burner will only burn regular dvd's and cd's. If you plan to burn Blue Rays then you should upgrade to a Blue Ray Burner.
It is a standard CD/DVD burner.

It will not burn blu-ray or dual-layer discs.

I appreciate your info - I didn't think it would. Thank you very much.
Can you recommend a good blue ray/dvd burner that will burn dual layer dvds? Thank you!

You didn't advise if your computer's CD/DVD burner drive is an IDE or SATA model.

Since the current drive is several years old, it can be either type.

What's the brand name and model name and model number of your computer?

What's the part/product number on it?

The more information we have, the better we can recommend a drive for you.

The model # provided in the OP (ie: HP DVD1270) is a SATA model. But it can't hurt to confirm.

Any BD drive will burn all CD and DVD discs.

And any of the brand names will be fine. It boils down to brand preference and/or price. Current cheapest drive at newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827136269
I concur with post #7.

www.newegg.com is where I purchase most of my computer parts.
