HP Compaq LA2006x monitor issues HELP PLEASE FAST

Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)
So I am setting up this monitor as my second monitor for my Dell Inspiron PC. I have a DVI to VGA cable adapter plugged into my PC with the VGA cord running to the second monitor. The first monitor is being run on an HDMI cable. The second monitor will power up, work as an extension of my first monitor (as I intended it to), will make a slight whirring noise the entire time it is turned on, and then will suddenly and unexpectedly turn off. I've made sure that the VGA cable and adapter are firmly in place, but besides that I don't know what to do!



NOTE: Forgot to mention this, but also my mouse will still be able to "travel" to the other screen, so it is still working. It will be powered on, but the whirring noise will stop and it'll go black.
