HP 580-023W

I bought that black Friday HP desktop from walmart about five years ago.

Now it won't power on anymore. I think it's the power supply(though the little green light behind the tower still turns on so who knows?).

I just need to make sure I'm buying a replacement power supply that will actually fit in the case and not fry the motherboard lol. Any suggestions?

Please supply the serial number of the computer
and the model number.

Have you changed anything?
Is it plugged straight to a wall point

It's this exact desktop:

Model #: 580-023W

It comes with the the following power supply:

300W internal uATX E-Star 6.0 Bronze

However, I'm fine with getting any brand replacement if possible. I just want to power it back up. I'm not upgrading the GPU or anything.

I will try plugging it into the wall directly when I get back home later today but everything else works connected to the same power strip.
This is from the computer's user guide:

Can you confirm if you can or cannot hear any fans running at the start up?

Definitely no fans. It doesn't respond at all to pressing the power button.
Ok, plugged it in to various outlets directly and still no dice. The little green light turns on (on the back of the power supply) when it's plugged into an outlet but other than that it's dead.
Not a good manual online at HP.
Disconnect the power cord from the computer - not wall socket.
Press power button on a couple of times to discharge
Plug back into computer and test.
If no good
Disconnect the power cord from the computer - not wall socket.

Open the case and see if you can locate the cmos battery.
It is a small round battery on the motherboard.
remove for 10-20mins.
Replace and test.
Without a clear pic of the motherboard - none in the manual it is hard to say if you can use any power supply.
HP, Dell etc normally have a different connection method so you have to always buy a PS from them.

From what I can see it looks like this could be a standard ATX power supply.
So you could go for any model you need to check the dimensions.
Is this dimensions of yours?

That looks exactly like it. I will double check later today.

If it is a standard ATX power supply, does that mean I can install a generic replacement and avoid getting it directly from HP?
Yes
Any recommendations? Will this get the job done or is this just too cheap?

did you try post # 7
did you try post # 7
Yes, except for the cmos battery part. I haven't taken a pic of it yet but it's this Odense2-k mobo:
Passive circuit component Circuit component Hardware programmer Electronic engineering Electronic component

I did get to measure it earlier and it's the exact same size as the psu in your attachment in post #8.

You should try the cmos battery.
Your PS could be fine.
It is next to the fan.
@phillpower2 any recommendations for an atx PS?
The CMOS Battery is that coin battery CR2032. In the past you can find them at any store but I have had the worst luck. Last time I found some was in a Frys/Kroger and not like Target/Walmart... That may be the cheapest route first before the PSU change.
Hey guys! Just a quick update, I was able to find an exact replacement for the HP power supply it came with. Popped that in its place and the PC booted up, good as new. This is all new to me, so thanks for all the info!
