I'm running XP Home with 384 meg of ram. The PC runs fine and everything has been freshly installed in the last 6 weeks, including the updated drivers for the HP 4200C scanner.

Even if I'm running no other programs, as soon as I start the scanner program the system slows to a crawl. It scans OK, but take 20 times longer than it used to. It's been this way since I installed XP. If I have other programs open, it's almost impossible to shut them down. I've searched the HP support files and can't find anything.

Any ideas on what to check or do next?

Thanks.

Thanks for the links. I'm sure RAM isn't a problem because I'm having the same problem immediately after rebooting.

It looks like I should try reinstalling the scanner with the HP CD and the 98SE Twain drivers.

Thanks, I'll give it a shot.
