How to stop clock losing time?

1149 Views 5 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Linpin
I have an odd situation which has developed on my pc. I leave my PC running all the time. The clock in the bottom right hand gradually loses time, and as it does, so the mouse movement becomes more jerky. When I restart the PC, the clock resets itself to the correct time and the mouse moves normally. Any ideas as to what's causing the problem?

You have a task that is interfearing with the timer interrupt. I suspect spyware/malware has invaded your machine. How about a HiJackThis listing for the machine?
I might also consider changing the CMOS battery, as that will affect time too, although Johnwill probably has hit the nail on the head with spyware or some other application that is causing a memory leak
I agree with JohnWill. You have something running in the background slowing down your system, possibly a trojan. If i were you i'd immediatly run an trojan detector. Look up Wilders.org, they have lot of info and downloads for such things.

Ad-Aware might also help, and you can find it in the Security section of my page.

I strongly doubt its the CMOS battery as you say the time is correct after you restart.

Here's a free links to expand on what Johnwill suggests:
Spybot, Adaware, Hijack This: http://spywareinfo.com/downloads.php?cat=sp#det

Free online virus scan: http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

Download Adaware and Spybot - update each one and run each one, one at a time. Fix all problems they find. You can also use hijackThis to post a log of running processes on your computer and we can have a look for anything suspicious.
Thank you for taking the trouble to assist me, it is much appreciated.

I have downloaded and run all of the applications as you suggested that I should. I also downloaded a trojan detector and ran that.
Here is my log file generated from HijackThis.

Thanks again for your assistance.
