So my new computer is coming today and I currently have Windows 8.1 and have been using Classic Shell to get the XP Start Menu. Classic Shell is no longer supported so I wanted to see if anyone knows how I can get the old XP Start Menu back on Windows 11 please. I've been researching it and it seems Open Shell will do it but I also see a registry edit that can be done within Windows 11. Obviously I would rather not use a third-party app if possible since they get outdated and sometimes don't work after updates. I don't have the computer yet but it's a Lenovo small form factor ThincCentre model 920.

I tried out Windows 11 for about 2 weeks, and I also hated it because of all the customizing and time it takes to get it to look and work like Windows 10.
You stuck with Windows 8.1 longer than most people, and you bypassed Windows 10, so you definitely have a big learning curve with Windows 11.
I've never used Open Shell, so I don't know what its pros and cons are.
Anyway, good luck.

But I installed Open Shell and it did the trick for me. You can customize it quite a bit but the main thing is I got back the class Start Menu with a start button and two columns showing Documents, Pictures, This PC etc. in the second column for easy access. Much easier to shut down too.

It's rumored that Windows 12 will be released this year.
If that's true, I hope it is an easier and more pleasant experience than Windows 11.
Win11 was rushed to RTM to support the intel performance/economy cpu cores. It took just about 1yr before win11 was a dependable operating system. Hopefully microsoft will test any new operating system a little better than they did with win11.....
