I got a Y-Audio cable from the source...one end plugs into my headphone jack on my laptop, the other end appears to be 2 RCA cables (red and white).

After that I'm lost. I already have an S-video cable from my laptop to my TV - that's easy enough. So the visual end is taken care of. But I want the sound from the laptop to be played from the TV with built in speakers.

I have a TV, VCR, and DVD player - all use the speakers built in on the TV. I have no idea where to plug the 2 ends (red and white) into. And also...do i have to turn the TV to some kind of special audio mode, or should it automatically play the audio from my laptop if the cables are plugged in correctly?

You should see 3 RCA jacks on the front or side or back of the TV one red one white and one yellow......then cables from your laptop should plug into the red and white RCA jacks red to red and white to white.....if you don't hear the sound then turn your TV to AV 1 or AV2 channel

ok that worked on the sound end of it. However, I had to turn my TV on to 'AV 1' in order to get sound. In order to get my laptop to display on the TV I use "S-Video." Is there a way I can get both video and audio to go through my TV (at the same time) from my laptop?

there should be another set of white and red RCA jacks near the S-Video in jack on the tv. plug your RCA jacks into those.

I also had this problem....if your TV has a scart plug -in then you can buy a scart plug that has a connection for S-Video in and RCA jacks for sound in......sorted me out.

If you're looking only for sound...

... - mini-plug->RCA to connect the laptop headphone jack to the TV's RCA sound inputs, OR, to connect the laptop headphone jack to your home stereo amplifier, on an unused input. If the latter, make sure the laptop sound is near '0', before powering up. Tweeter drivers in your [Cerwin-Vegas] do NOT like sudden power-up's at all!
