Make sure you followed these instruction Before you downloaded the "drivers".

• The instructions may vary depending on the version of your operating system.
• You must be logged on as an Administrator.
• Disconnect your Brother machine from your computer if you already connected an interface cable

When you go to the driver download screen you have a choice of 8 different downloads.
In post #5 @plodr asked which option was you trying.
In her list(post #5) I suggested you try b) Printer driver and Scanner driver for local connection

 

Can you boot to safe mode and try.
I just downloaded the file from Canada and had no issue.

As I understand it, the OP has no problem downloading the file. It is when it comes to install that the error pops up.

I didn't want to download to see what the extension is on the download.

You have not updated to 8.1?
Version 8 support ended on Jan 12, 2016. Windows 8.1 support didn't end until Jan 10, 2023.

I will download and look at the extension after I know if you are using Win 8 or Win 8.1.

The problem is the file Failed to Decompress.
The file is an exe. I downloaded the file an ran it with no Failed to Decompress errors.
I suggested to use the USA site in case the Canadian site file was corrupted.

 

Yes, I have upgraded to Windows 8.1 before w but I switched back because I think windows 8 is much faster.

It should have run an install after decompressing.

It does not say where because you have to
1) disconnect the printer
2) run the exe file
3) then connect the printer, it will then finish the setup.
