is there a way to change who a computer is registered too?

i am going to be giving a laptop i have to someone else as i am getting a new one.

but in the system properties it still shows as registered to me.

is there a windows command to change it or do you have to reinstall the system with the cds from the manufacturer?

thanks in advance

You need to edit the registry. In windows 2000 the path to the key is:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion

start > run > regedit

I would assume the path is slightly different in Windows XP. Can someone with XP check it.

It should default to the last person logged in if you are using the 2000 style login box. There is a group policy setting to clear the last username that logged in.
