If you give us some information on the equipment it would make it easier to help you.
Make and model of modem/router
Make and model of pc
Just because it is being phased out does not mean you have to change anything.
Your router and pc will still talk to one another.
It is only if you change the router your pc wireless might not be able to connect to the new frequency

Modem/Router: Verizon Motorola Model ONT 1000G14
Is this also doing the wireless routing ?
Hard to find info
If you are worried about less secure wifi and this is a combined modem router
1) Ask version to update equipment
Or
2) Ask version can you add a router with more secure wifi.

Pc should be fine to connect to newer network router

The Arris ONT1000G14 is an Optical Network Terminal so you have fiber optic service. It is a modem.

Do you have a router attached? I've been trying to find an image of the ONT1000G14 but have not seen the back of it.

Go here and click on chat to find out how to fix the issue you are having

Hello.
  1. Select the Network icon on the taskbar. ...
  2. Choose the Wi-Fi network you want, then select Connect.
  3. Type the network password, and then select Next.
  4. Choose Yes or No, depending on the type of network you're connecting to and if you want your PC to be discover able by other PCs and devices on the network.
