Hi everyone. This is my first post and question. So I started working from home and my modem has to go directly into my computer. This in turn makes my router useless. My husband and I are trying to figure out how we can keep streaming TV and him still use his computer to get online while I am working. Someone said a bridge...but I don't really understand it...despite researching it. Is there an adapter that can go from the back of the modem to the router and my work computer at the same time? I am somewhat liberate in computers and networks but this one has me stumped. We just need to be able to use my wired up work computer and at the same time still have the home network internet available too. Please help. Lol
Hi
As Frank askedif you give us the details of the current modem and router
You MIGHT be able to put a mini switch between the router and modem
We really need the details of what you have
Make and model numbers
Why do you need to connect directly to your modem, which is less secure than connecting through a router?
Assuming that your answer is "employer requirement" I suggest that you query them again. Specifically, many people these days are very effectively spreading a lot of confusion by calling a modem/router combo device as simply a modem. If their "modem" includes modem/router then what they really mean is that your computer used for work has to be connected by ethernet, not Wi-Fi. If this is the case you can use your router.
If someone is telling you you have to connect directly to your modem, ask them why because that makes no sense at all. 30 years ago, it did. But not today.
