My home page keeps reverting back to some dodgy search engine. I've used Ad-aware, S&D and AVG so far so it's a lot better than it was.

Could someone have a look at the log and advise on what can be zapped......

Hi CHH,

First of all, you have two anti-virus softwares running. Disable one of them (it doesn't matter which). Two softwares can conflict with each other.

Open Hijack This!, run a scan and check these items:
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = about:NavigationFailure
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = about:NavigationFailure
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = about:NavigationFailure
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = about:NavigationFailure
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,HomeOldSP = about:blank
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {451E9465-3239-4466-A199-07EC47891955} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\nbfn.dll
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [vqzmf] C:\WINDOWS\vqzmf.exe
O18 - Filter: text/html - {0EF930FA-5FD6-45B5-9B87-D87AF5F2B60C} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\nbfn.dll
O18 - Filter: text/plain - {0EF930FA-5FD6-45B5-9B87-D87AF5F2B60C} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\nbfn.dll
O23 - Service: SmartLinkService - Unknown - slserv.exe (file missing)

Now please close all windows and browsers, except HijackThis, and have HijackThis fix them by clicking on Fix Checked.

Then,
1.Download the FxAgentB.exe file from: http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/FxAgentB.exe
2.Save the file to a convenient location, such as your Windows desktop.
3.Close all the running programs.
4.If you are on a network or if you have a full-time connection to the Internet, disconnect the computer from the network and the Internet.
5.Locate the file that you just downloaded.
6.Double-click the FxAgentB.exe file to start the removal tool.
7.When the following message appears, click OK:

Please do NOT start any other applications until the removal tool exits and the computer is restarted.
Doing so may cause reinfection.
8.Click Start to begin the process, and then allow the tool to run.
9.Restart the computer.
10.Run the removal tool again to ensure that the system is clean.
11. If you are on a network or if you have a full-time connection to the Internet, reconnect the computer to the network or to the Internet connection.

Then, reboot in Safe mode. To reboot in Safe mode:
Restart your computer and immediately begin tapping the F8 key on your keyboard.
If done right a Windows Advanced Options menu will appear. Select the Safe Mode option and press Enter.

In Safe mode, delete these files (if present):
C:\WINDOWS\vqzmf.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\nbfn.dll

Then, reboot (in the normal mode) and post a new log.

Thanks for that. I've done what you suggested and also ran online scans at Housecall and RAV.

I notice that in C:\Windows I've got a program called 180loader.exe. Should I be zapping that in safe mode too?

Here's the new log..

It looks like the Symantec Tool got rid of the About:Blank Hijack. You should do what Khazars recommended. Your HJT log looks clean!Good work!!:)

To prevent this from happening in the future:
1.I suggest you download Spyware Blaster to prevent the installation of Spyware in the first place.

2.IE-Spyad puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all and I suggest you download it.

3. I noticed that you do not have a firewall and that makes you vulnerable to Hackers. I recommend you use Zone Alarm or Kerio Firewall

4.I recommend that you read a thead titled So how do I get infected in the first place? by Tony Klien which informs you on how to tighten the security of your PC.
