High latency only in online games

Hey guys,
so this has been buggng me for the past few days, my latency in games is consistently high at around 120 - 200 ms when normally on a good day it's around 70 - 80ms. Usually, when my latency starts having problems like spiking I just restart my modem and its all good.

Heres what it looks like on a good day (google.com)

On a bad day ( usually when someones dling or watching a vid or just out of the blue)still google

What I dont understand is why I have high ping only in games and my internet is seemingly fine

It's not a jitterly lag in game like usual, but like nothings wrong just 2 - 3 second delay.

I've also noticed that this stops around 12am - 1am everynight but not sure when it starts up again
Any help?

Based on the information you have given, it sounds like it is common connection latency associated with your ISP. The fact it seems to improve after 12am, which is typical as most normal users are logging off and going to bed up to and around that time (less people on the network = better connection).
is there anything I can do about it ? or is it just purely poor service from my isp?
this has never occured before
Yea if you got wireless, then you automatically get +5 to +50ms when gaming. The only real solution is just to use a cable. Its sad but true.
If you are wireless then try it wired to see if it makes a difference.

If it is your ISP connection they might be able to tweak it a bit if you ask them, some ISPs do.
I would recommend always using a cable while gaming. Wireless simply cannot compete.
However, I would also try changing the channel of your router and seeing if that improves the lag at all.

Depends what level you are competing at in my opinion.

Unless you are competing at the higher competitive levels or you have a particularly bad wireless connection, most of the time it doesn't make a great deal of difference in my experience.
I tried using a cable and it made no difference. It is probably isp related
Try an online speed test, speedtest.net works well. If the results are less than satisfactory contact your ISP and see what they'll do on their end to resolve the issue.
Note: They will probably charge you for service fees if they send out a rep, so try to get all of that information before agreeing to have someone sent out. If the issue truly is on their end they shouldn't be charging you to fix it.
