The microSD card happens to be 4 GB or more in capacity? Your old phone and your computer's memory card reader just happen to only support the old regular SD cards, not 4+GB SDHC cards. Get a new card reader if you want to retvieve the data. Go to newegg, read reviews, and.. Err. Just forget it, I remember there being a good reader with reviews saying it supported HC and it was cheap, wait a sec...

Memory cards do break down and get corrupted... If you have something important, a memory card or a flash drive is not where to store it. On a hard drive, and a backup on another, or on a CD/DVD.
