Help. New to this. have a parallel cable connecting my win 98 pc, to my old dos 6 operated Olivetti 486. Floppy not working onthe laptop so I would like to attempt loading win 3 from my win 98 pc onto the laptop via the parallel cable. Any help or advice appreciated but make sure you give me a real idiots guide cos I am easily confused. Cheers Alan

Been away from win98 for a while so things are a little vague. But I do remember that it has peer to peer networking including a way of reaching over from the win98 machine to load a file on the other machine soas to network.
I think what you need is an older LAPLINK or the like. They're used to be options to type a MODE and COPY statement into the DOS machine and then upload a bootstrap from the machine with LAPLINK installed. After that, you could upload the full DOS version and communicate between the machines. Of course, you could also remove the hard disk from the laptop and use a $10 IDE adapter to connect it to your other machine, and directly copy what you need across.
