HELP! contexualsearch and logpilelies

1256 Views 25 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  buckaroo
I need some help. I was looking for the words to a song and ended up clicking on something bad I believe. Now I have this horrible contexualsearch toolbar that pops up on my screen whenever I log onto the internet. Also it tried to put about a dozen programs on my desktop but I pressed cancel and I think I got rid of them. It keeps trying to change my homepage and my popup blocker isn't working anymore. I downloaded and ran both adaware and spybot search and destroy. That got rid of an awful lot of stuff but didn't touch this at all. So I've been looking for the fix and saw that I should try the HijackThis. I ran it and will post at the bottom what it came up with.
I have Windows XP and run Outlook Express and Internet Explorer 6.0
Thanks for the help
Renee

Run hijack this again, and have it fix this line, then reset your yahoo home page.

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/cus...://my.yahoo.com

You can also scale down all the items running at startup via start, run, msconfig, startup tab. The 04 items are an overkill there.
Let me see who I can beckon for assistance ;)
Run hijack this again and fix that one too ;)

Happy Easter to you too $teve ;)

I see you posted while I was typing, perhaps you didn't reboot. Is it gone now?
Can you post another log?

Buck, I'll try googling those items and see what I can find :)
http://www.all-about-pc.de/Viren-Ecke/ToalA.asp

Anyone translate :D

I guess google does, but not sure how well, this is what I'm looking at:

The Toal A infects in addition the files HH.exe and Explorer.exe (in the Windows listing) and tries the same with further selected files, preferably Netstart.exe and Calc.exe. Every time one of these programs is then implemented, also the virus of new one starts.
