Hi - I am interested in building my own website and would like to use an extremely easy to use program. My programming skills these days are pretty limited and I don't understand alot of the code talk I've seen in program information sites (ie. Dreamweaver), although my computer skills and learning skills are fairly good (I'd like to say above average - but that's in my world)

Can anyone recommend a good, easy to use program to build my website? I would like to include pictures, forums, chats, and other sections that could be complex (or seem to be complex to me).

Thanks for your replies!!

For including pictures in your site, you need basic HTML. Any WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editor will be able to offer you this. If you want to make online photo albums, you can use JAlbum. It is free and fantastic. You can download it from http://www.datadosense/jalbum

As regards forums, chats and other similar complicated sections, you will need to choose a host that will provide you with these scripts.

As regards forums, have a look at http://www.ranawat.net/mms It is a forum I am building for a client and waiting for some inputs since quite some time. But the poor fellow has his exams around the corner and is waiting for them to get over. :)

FYI, this is done on my servers. I am providing hosting services and bulding this type of forum is quite easy. All that you have to do customise it. You can build it in about 2-3 hours (depending on your connection speed) using your browser. It is fairly simple.

There are many other things like guest book, form mailer, shopping cart, chat room, etc. on the server. You will have to find something similar to host your site.

So it sounds like I need to check out servers first to see what they provide, then look at building my site. Is that right? I was going to draw it out on paper first to see what I want included and how I want it to look. I really have no idea where to start as I've not done this before. My husband has a site for his photography that was done with FrontPage. But it's a fairly simplistic site http://www.photosbydavid.ca/
and doesn't contain things that I want/need.

I looked at your forum. It looks great! Very nice, I like it!
Thanks also for the information. I appreciate any help you can give me!

good idea to draw it out - and see how it connects.
if you know html you do not need any special software but if you already have frontpage then you can use that to develop your web. there are a number of free editors available heres 1 example

Drawing out things on paper and planning is essential. But also be aware of what servers have to offer. You may be able to do a lot of things more than what you are expecting at present. Alternatively, if you see what is already ready made, you may spare yourself the trouble of re-inventing the wheel :)

If you want to see what a server can offer, send me a private message. I will send you the link of a demo hosting account. That may make things far easier for you.

Thanks for all your help - sorry it's taken awhile to reply. My kids have been sick and I don't get any time to do stuff when they're so whiney.

I'll be doing more research on websites and hosting as soon as I get a chance. Any help on that would be greatly appreciated.

I checked my hubbys site and I don't see where it says "new page 1" so I'm not sure what you're referring to or how to change it.

(sorry - it's 10:08 pm and my 3 year old is crying)

thanks - I told my hubby's webmaster - actually it's his sort-of ex-step-son.. - and he went and fixed it!

I've been doing some research and am finding alot of free templates. I haven't researched hosting yet though. I still need to figure out how to make my site. Not sure if I'm putting the cart before the horse or not.

I really appreciate your help.
