I have 2 drives, a dvd drive, and a cd-rw. My computer is about 6 years old now. I have had this problem for months now but have never tried to fix it. I am trying to burn some music on to a disc. When i put in a blank disc the little light on the drive flashes like if it would be reading a disc but then it stops and nothing happens. I thought it might just be the disc so i put in a game of mine but it said that there was still nothing in the drive. i have checked device manager and it says nothing is wrong and have tried updating my drivers but there are no new ones for it. Please help.

If everything is in order and the only problem is not detecting a disc in the drive - I'd say your drive has thrown in the towel and it's time to replace it.

One last thing you could try as a last hope would be to get lens cleaner for your drive.

It's a CD that has this very thin bristle/brush on one side of the disk that goes from the inner ring to the outter edge - if that. Usually even available at a local drug store's electronics section (try by blank CDs) or as always, you can find it at a Best Buy or so.

oh ok then. thanks for the help. i will try the lens cleaner and see what happens if not i guess i will have to replace the drive.
