Hi All!

In extreme 3D situations (such as running my screen saver) and often when trying to use my burner, my computer tower will make a "beep, boop" (silly I know) like noise and turn off. It really frustrates me. The sound also occurs every time i shut my computer down.

Anyway, I recorded the sound using my MP3 player and have uploaded it. It only goes for a few seconds.

Go to this link:http://www.supload.com/sound_confirm.php?get=886508271.wav
Click download and click Open With Windows media Player.

Please if anyone could have a listen and post what they think it could be caused by and how i can fix it. I would really be appreciative.

Thanks All

I am not sure about the sound myself. If I had to guess I would have to go with a power supply going bad! The shutting down could be caused by other things like cpu over heating or Video card over heating or other problems. But when you have a shut down when trying to use your optical drive, that is the clue for me.

it only ocasionally happens when burning. It mostly happens during intense 3D situations. Sometimes it helps if i open the computer cup and just let it work like that.

Start by checking your temps. You can do this in the bios. Each bios is a little different in where this info is displayed; check your manual. Once you find your cpu and system temp, post them here along with your exact specs ie make and model of motherboard, cpu, ram, brand and wattage of power supply, etc.

If you have a big box system like a dell, hp, etc then post the model number.

If removing the side helps then it definitely is temp related. Possibly you need to add front and back case fans. Possibly a case fan or worse yet cpu fan is failing.I would install Speedfan and monitor temps and fan speeds while gaming especially....

Have you read your manual in regard to the bios and where to find the temps?
Speedfan is not going to stop your system from rebooting. It is only going to tell you the system temps. If they are too high, it is still going to reboot. Speedfan is a fine app, however what it displays should be verified by readings in the bios.

those temps r high....... take the side of your case off and clean out any dust from the cpu heatsink and fan.......with compressed air
then take another look at your temps....do u have a exhaust fan at the back of your puter? (make sure all fans r working)

Those temps are from speedfan. Again you MUST verify what it is telling you; ie check the temps in the bios.
They do look too high since most of the time a hd will run in the 30s. Have you given the machine a good cleaning with a can of air to blow out the dust? Make sure the heat sink for the cpu is clean and clear of dust.

BIOS=Basic Input Output System. It is what you use to set basic parameters such as boot order, ram speed, enable or disable motherboard devices, etc. It also has a section for monitoring temps.
If you do not have a manual to read, you can download one from the maker of your motherboard.

Bios or Setup is under operating system...we can only deal in generalities as we have no idea what your system is...tap F1, F2 or "del" after pushing power button to start until bios opens and then liik for category "Pc Health" or like....
