Headphones don't show up on PC

Hi
So...every time i plug my headphones in, my PC asks if it's a speaker or headphones etc. I don't want to manually choose each time ''h-e-a-d-p-h-o-n-e-s''. When i go into 'sound' - 'playback' settings only Speakers (realtek) is shown, an option for 'headphones' is not there and 'show disabled and disconnected devices' also doesn't help.
-How do I make headphones default when plugged in? Help!

I have a single audio port on my Windows 7 laptop used for the mic, external speaker and headphones.

Headphones never appears in my list of playback devices yet when I plug my headset in, the sound comes through instead of using the internal speaker.

You need to post if this is a desktop or laptop. (Brand and model helps so we can look at the hardware) How many audio ports? What version of Windows?

Laptop Asus zenbook 13 UX333FA, one audio port, windows 10
Sorry I don't run Windows 10 so I have no way to test what happens in that OS.

All I can report is that my netbook never shows earphones/headset when the unit is plugged in. The speaker shows a green check/tick and the sound comes through correctly.

Do you have the newest audio driver?

Other than that, I don't have any suggestions.
