when i tried to boot my pc a few mins ago, before windows started up, the pc gave me an error message saying somthing along the lines of

"disk I/O error, please insert boot record on floppy"

a few mins later, i tried to boot up as normal (i turned the pc off after the message) and it all worked fine!

what does this message mean? and what could this indicate? perhaps my hard drive is dying/ on its way out?

thanks to all!

what makes you say that? a cmos battery should last for 10 years or so, and i have had my pc for not even half that. and my pc has been through 10 sets of parts over the years.

yes TEN (10) sets of parts. a lot decided to spontaneously blow. pcworld said it was the dvd drive. like hell.

anyway, what makes you say it? (apart from your consience :)

Well, I'll tell you what mr. smart guy, why don't you start replacing all the expensive parts first then.

Consider this my last post to you, also consider the battery could have been sitting on the shelf 9 years before you got it.....not sure where you get the 10 year idea anyway  It's a watch battery. I've never had one last for 10 years.
