i have and am using norton system works 2002 and last year, purchased NSW 2003. new in the box with hard copy of manual. i want to upgrade to NSW 2003. went to site.....
thats a big joke............... what i think is a great product, but lousy web site and tech help, so i'm asking TSG's members. do i..... go into norton's 02 and delete, thru the cleansweep, use uninstall wizard option and get rid of "all" 04 antivirus trial and other tools, support, and all programs associated to the 04 update............ i assume that with these gone, then i can get the 2005 update thru symantec???? anyone else experienced this and what did they have to do to get it to work.

currently using win 98se, 900mhz processor, 256 ram.

thanks in advance to all replies.

You just go to start ->programme->run down the list till you come to Norton and clickuninstall button. That is the best way. In case a message comes out can't uninstall, then you reinstall NAV2002, follow same procedure and uninstall again.

As long as you use the uninstall button everything will be ok. If .... a dialogue box comes out and ask you are you sure you want to delete this link, and you are not sure just say no. Don't worry, the first time you try it you feel very apprehensive and daunting. Take it a step at a time.

Have a look at this Symantec KB article;http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPOR...56ee60055ac57&dtype=&prod=&ver=&osv=&osv_lvl=

Sometimes, Add/Remove will get rid of enough to allow the later version to install and, up until 02/03, the CD's usually incorporated an automatic uninstall of earlier versions (at leat it did for the 'stand alone' products, not sure about the 'suites'). To be 100% certain you might need to run one of the safer Registry cleaners.

Here's Symantec's advice about what to do before installing NSW 2005;http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPOR...sf&view=docid&dtype=&prod=&ver=&osv=&osv_lvl=

Things seem to have got more complicated from 04 onwards, perhaps as the result of the activation requirements or some other reason. There are manual uninstall instructions available for some of the newer versions but I'm not sure about NSW.

PS. Just noticed you refer to upgrading form 02 to 03, then mention uninstalling 04 antivirus?. If you are only going from 02 to 03, Add/ Remove and/or the SymClean tool should be enough.

hello Togg, purchased NSW in 02. used thru 03, with update, downloaded purchase. bought 03 version on ebay in spring of 04. Then, computer took a dirt nap with "blue screen death messages". i basically got feed up and didn't use until after turkey day in 04. got on line, got educated,
for a middle level person, fixed problems, with system tweak. fixed all registries and streamline everything.
now but apprehensive,............ want to update my NSW buy loading the 03 version, then get updated for 05. sounds confusing. brain went out ...........hours ago.................. now trying to get NSW 2005 version from ebay, just waiting for the right price.........thanks novatoasv
