Hey all,

I wanted to test if one of my current 1 gig RAM sticks was working, so I decided to test it on my old pc (which was fully working)

Now my old pc has an MSI 8750 Neo 478 socket motherboard which supports ddr400/333/266 mhz ram ( I used 3x 512mb ddr4 sticks inside)

The RAM I put in to test was an OCZ 1024mb 3200 EL PLATINUM which I have no idea if compatible or not.

So the computer makes a loud buzzing noise and the monitor is in powersave mode not showing anything.

I take out the stick and put back the old ram... same thing!! So have I just fried or ruined my motherboard on this old pc? I never knew wrong ram could do this :(

Any suggestions would be great.

Try with the old RAM in another slot, if you're lucky, only the slot where the OCZ stick was in, was ruined.
FWIW, you can't even fit DDR2 sticks into a DDR board.

Another magic trick could be unplugging all the power plugs inside the computer and reseating them. It is very, very likely at this point that your motherboard is gone, but it doesn't hurt to try.
