Harware Problem

817 Views 2 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  mobo
Hi, My Friend has got an old P3 PC and it wont take XP. He had to format it because it had a lot of "rubbish". After formating it he could not get the sound working. The video card installed with windows 98 Se, but the sound was not found. The sound is on board the motherboard and there is no sticker to indicate a manufacturer.

Is there any kind of software which can scan and find what sound device it is so i can get him the drivers for it.

Thanks

They can go to START>RUN and type in MSINFO32 and click OK. Click on the (+) next to COMPONENTS and click to highlight MULTI-MEDIA. With the ADVANCED INFORMATION button ticked, it should tell what the name of the sound card is in bold letters at the top.

There is also a program called BELARC ADVISOR which is free and can be downloaded here: http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html
which, when ran, will give a list of all Hardware and Software on the PC.

Hope this helps.
In addition what you should be looking for is the motherboard, then you should be able to find the sound drivers with it as well as any chipset drivers..
