Windows XP is telling me that my drive is full. I have had this problem before an ended up reformating and reinstalling Windows; big pain. The drive 10 GB and I have deleted over 600 MB of files yet Windows says that the drive is still full. I'm guesing something is writing to Hard Drive but what I don't know. If that's not the case then XP is misreading the drive.

This might seem like a silly question, however you are emptying the recycle bin correct? To save more room, go to disk cleanup and under more options have it remove all except the last system restore point. Do a search for any *.tmp files and delete those as well.

Post back with results.

This is not surprising. A 10 gig drive with XP and a lot of apps and data can quickly fill up.

You can make some room:

1. Make sure you clean each user's TEMP directory, Internet Cache and any *.TMP files.

2. Clean out any of the security updates from Microsoft that are left over in the Windows directory. They are usually the first few directories listed.

You also might try some of the utilities that will let you sort your hard drive's folders by size. This way you can see where the most space is being taken up. This can often help find places to delete unnecessary files.
