I just installed Halo on my computer. When I try running it, the little screen that says "Halo" on it pops up, then the screen goes blank, and then I get an error message that says "A problem has occured initializing Direct3D. Hardware acceleration may be disabled, please run DXDIAG."
So, I ran DXDIAG, and Direct3D acceleration is enabled.
I tried reinstalling DirectX, that didn't work
I tried reinstalling my video card driver, that didn't help.
I'm currently downloading what I believe is a newer version of my video card driver, but it's 30mb, and my internet is pretty slow, so it won't be done for a good long while. The video card is an ATI Radeon X850 256 mb. So I would imagine it would be more than enough to support whatever the game took. I did notice, however, that when I went into the ATI Catalyst Control Center, then into "Help", under the "System Software" tab, it says "Hardware acceleration setting: Not available"

So, I'm stumped. Is it the video card itself? The driver? The game?
Basically, does anyone know how to help?
Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Trying turning hardware acceleration in DirectX diagnostics off and then back on again.
Make sure the hardware acceleration is turn up to full in display properties.
Also try installing the latest patch.

Try going into your bios of your motherboard and making sure that the video card slot is selected and is on the highest speed. Also try updating the motherboard chipset drivers.
