GTX 660 not working?

622 Views 2 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  flavallee
I got a GTX 660 from a friend. I installed a new power supply to support it and then installed the GPU. When plugged into the GPU nothing happens on my monitor. It's like nothing is registering. When I plug the monitor into the onboard graphics slot everything is fine. The only idea I have (which I doubt will work) is install the driver first? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Also, I tested the GPU on a different computer and it works fine. The PC I am trying to install the GPU into is an HP Pavillion P7-1414. The only thing different from stock is the power supply which I just installed today.

What exact pw supply did you install?
Do you have the 6pin pw connector connected?

If you are doing this with the nvidia card still installed, it most likely means the card is not fully seated in the slot. Most systems disable onboard video when a real video card is installed. Check your manual to see if a jumper is used for video. Most of the time no however it never hurts to check.

How to properly install a new video card.
1 Old card still installed. Go to the relevant site ie amd/ati or nvidia. Download the latest driver for your card. Do not use the driver on the support disk; it is almost always out of date.
2 Old card still installed, uninstall all software based on the old card ie driver, any monitoring software, any suite, etc. Do not reboot; tell it later
3 Shutdown and install your new card. Make sure it is fully seated in the slot. Connect the monitor and any necessary pw connections
4 Pw ON and cancel any "Found new hardware wiz" Install the driver you downloaded in step #1. Reboot when prompted.

Done.

You didn't say which Windows version is currently running in it, but it originally came with Windows 8 64-bit.

The description of the AMD processor that came in it will determine which AMD integrated graphics came in it.
