I have seen a couple of similar threads to this, but the problem I'm having with this game seems slightly different.
I've been playing GTA3 for a couple of months now with no problems whatsoever.
But just the other day, it started crashing. What happens is I'll get to play for between 1-10 minutes, and then the speakers will make a short fizzing sound, then the whole screen will freeze. Once this happens, the reset button is the only thing that will do anything.
What's confusing me is that I have changed nothing about my setup for this to start happening. This game has just suddenly decided not to run properly.
I've checked my CPU temperature on start-up, which seems fine (about 116F). I've also installed the latest graphics card drivers and instaled DirectX 9. None of this has helped.
I'm running the game on an Athlon 1800+ CPU, with 320MB of RAM and a GeForce 4 MX420 card (64MB RAM).
Any help would be really appreciated. I miss my GTA3!
That sounds like a hardware problem to me. If you know how, open your case and make sure that all of the expansion cards are well seated in there proper ports. Also your video card may be going out..
Have you did a test on your video card? If not go to start run and type in dxdiag and test everything and there is a website that you go to that tests your computer www.pcpitstop.com
Let me know what you did and what happened
The more I read up on the geforce4 MX cards the worse it gets, it seems that everyone is having problems with them, including me, that's why radeon is going to rule soon.
