I just bought a decent AGP graphics card.

I want to upgrade my motherboard/CPU next but most these days ship with PCI-E. Are there motherboards about with both AGP and PCI-E? So when I upgrade my graphics again, I can get PCI-E but not make my current new card obselete already?

Thanks
Jack

They do exist for Socket 939 motherboards, but that socket is already the previous generation and the boards that did have both were low-end motherboards. So not really.

I want to get a mobo capable of dual core. I'm just planning ahead, I need to save up yet.

So they don't exist for dual cores, dam. How about a pci-e to agp converter? Do they exist?

Sorry, I'm new to this world of dual cores and PCI-E. AGP is as far as I've currently gone.

I've heard of converters but also heard they don't work too well - bad performance and compatibility issues. I'd also expect they cost more then its worth. A Radeon 1600 Pro or equivalent card will be pretty cheap a year from now.

Dam, I just spent £90 on it...

:(

Oh well, perhaps I'll stay with the current config until graphics isn't enough again. Or just use the card on the mobo and have another PC...

Is socket 775 dual core or single? From what I can remember it's a single core socket.

Does anyone know any more about these sockets?

(Core 2 Duo is fastest out right now)

I surrently have an AMD Sempron 3000+ on socket 754.

I've (nearly) always had AMD, especially for the higher spec PC's. The last Intel I had was a Pentium 3 that fell from 833mhz down to 745mhz suddenly.

Certain socket 775 boards support dual core processors and certain one's don't - it depends on the chipset. All socket 939 boards support the dual core's but the NForce4 chipset based boards have issues with USB transfers when using a dual core processor. All Socket 940 boards support dual core processors as well. Socket 754 boards only support single core processors.

Trust me I am a AMD fan by far but Intel is on top right now. AMD used to be the best for gaming and graphics but with the release of core 2 duo that has changed. I look at it this way. why pay for something that i'm going to get less performance out of for the same price. So, as of late I have been going Intel till AMD catches up. Don't think that will be till late this year.

If you want a mobo that supports dual core you will need to buy a cpu anyways because they do not make a motherboard I know of that is socket 745 that has dual core support or a dual core cpu that is socket 745.

If you are getting a new CPU you may as well go with the best performance

I'll probably go socket 940. Which is the one currently in use? As in, the one likely to get more CPU's made for it? I know socket 754 has been phased out now.

What about this PCI-E converter, it could be what I need.

I can't return it, it's been opened etc. What percentage do graphics cards sell for used?

It's been used as well, using it now. it does however have a vibrating fan. Could that get me cashback?
