I am currently building a system for a friend. They use Maya 4 and 3Ds Max for animation, but would also like to play games etc. This makes the requirement for the graphics card as all round, but with a strong emphasis on 3d modelling and reliability.

Any suggestions on a card at around $350? I have heard that the Geforce chip has loads of compatability problems with Maya, 'cause otherwise a Geforce 3 card would be ideal.

Any help would be brilliant, or suggestion of forums that are specfic to graphics design and 2d/3d modelling.

Hi chrisporter,

This site lists graphic cards that work with Maya 4. I would recommend picking one of them. Probably the Oxygen GVX series card, although The ATI FireGL cards are nice too :)

Maya 4 requirements

Don't know much about 3Ds Max, but I would bet one of those cards would be fine....

*edit* Whoa, looks like the Oxygen GVX1 is the only card that's gonna fit in that price range. They have it at BUY.COM for $337.
