Can you save your PC..... that depends on how old it is and whether it is worth saving.

The problem could be as simple as replacing the CMOS battery or adjusting a loose cable..... or it could be terminal in that your HDD has gone to Hard Disk Heaven.

Suggest that the first thing to do is make sure that all the hardware is OK. Cables, HDD, overheating.... all the normal stuff.

If you are absolutely sure that the hardware is OK then a reinstall of Windows will probably fix the problem.

Hi, I'm sort of a newbie. Can you provide troubleshooting steps ? I have a WIN Install disk. Do i turn on PC and press F12 to get to the boot menu, stick the WIN 7 install disc in, then see if I can get it to read the DVD tray with the install disc in it?
Well, the issue has blossomed into turning my PC into crawl speed. Can you recommend any diagnostic software to run?
Does that mean that the start-up has gone past the BSoD and that although slow the computer is sort of working...?

My recommendation is DON'T use 3rd-party so-called "Diagnostic Software". Windows has adequate built-in diagnostic utilities. In addition all reputable manufacturers have safe and rigorously tested diagnostic utilities.

For all diagnostics it is usually always preferable to be logged-in with Administrator privileges.

The first diagnostics that you should run are a test of RAM (use the Windows Memory Test utility) and a test of the HDD (use Windows Check Disk). You should also download and run the HDD test utility for the Make and Model of your hard drive. These are always available on the manufacturers website. Therefore, if your hard drive is, for example, a Western Digital HDD you need to find the Model Number. You then proceed to WD website and download the test utility for that model.

Some computer manufacturers provide extensive Hardware testing utilities. For example, Lenovo provide a complete suite of testing utilities which will test all the hardware.

Run the RAM and HDD tests and report back the results.

Well, my neighbor rescued me by just giving me a SSD where we installed MS OS 8.1 and now the PC spins like a top. Now I just have to get used to 8.1. THX for the help. You can close this ticket.
