Games won't recognize IPX Network

1178 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  ladysmee
My problem is that my sons can't play games which need an IPX network, such as Warcraft 2 and Diablo. Can anyone help?

I have two computers networked using 98SE and a broadband router/gateway. Both computers appear in Network Neighbourhood and are sharing printer, ADSL internet connection and files. The IPX/SPX protocol is installed.

Are there any gamers out there who have IPX working? What is missing or what am I doing wrong?

Is the IPX protocol bound to your network adapter? Call your ISP and see if IPX games can be run through their network or not.

This set me on the right track. I unticked all bindings in IPX properties, and also unbound IPX from the dial up adapter and PPPoE, leaving it bound only to the NIC. It works with Diablo now, and the rest will be tested shortly!

Many thanks.

look in to the blizzard web site, or call their tech support. in order you can play warcraft or diablo over the internet using your router, you need to open the port that will allow the game exchange information, for example, i'm playing Starcraft, made by blizzard too, i have to open port 6110 on my router.

different game may require to open different port(s)
Thanks for the info about ports. It may come in useful when I try playing net games as opposed to LAN ones. So far I have only tried one online game, but so far so good.

IPX is working just fine now since I unbound it from everything but the NIC.
