game keeps freezing

Hi all,
I got an email from a friend about some problems that they are having playing a game. I don't know what to look at first so I thought I would post the message here and if any one has any ideas please let me know.
The system is Windows ME on a pentium 3 with 128mb of ram.
All help will be greatly appreciated.

When he would put the game in it would do nothing a few times. I told him to uninstall and install again. That seemed to be a quick fix temporarily. Then when it did run it would just go through it's options without making any choices. It wouldn't respond to the mouse.
The other problem had been the computer freezing but that seems to be clearing itself up. I downloaded the new msn8 a few weeks ago and that seems to be when the majority of problems started. Since the new msn we can't shut down the computer at night, only hibernate.
I've had a problem with the norton anti-virus for a few months or so. When I tried running through the periodic check it gave a message;
Nmain
Nmain has caused an error in NMAIN.EXE.Nmain will now close. If you continue to experience problems try restarting the computer.
I tried restarting and it does no good. I don't know if we have any anti virus or not.
The other nite got a new message;
Norton Integrator
An unhandled exception has occurred. The error was: Unknown (OXCOOOOOOO5)
