Okay two of my friends live out in the country where broadband is not yet available except for on sattelite (which is super expensive for the hardware). Both of them can only connect at 26kbps at best even though they both have brand new computers. I thought maybe it was wiring issues in the house but even if I plug into the service outlet on the outside of the house (where the line comes from the pole) it still only connects at 26kbps or so. This is the same at both of there houses and they live several miles from each other. the telephone company says as long as they have a dial tone that's all they are responsible for. I don't think they have any options but i just thought I would get your opinions. Thanks.
