Fresh Install of Windows XP stalling and freezing

I just wrote zeros to my HD and installed a fresh copy of windows XP. I then upgraded to SP 2 and downloaded some security updates. Once this was done, I noticed that my computer is locking up sometimes or freezing and then unfreezing after a few moments and then freezing again repeatedly. I have posted my task manager up on the screen to see if there was a certain program that was causing excessive processing, but it locks and goes very slow with very little processing taking place.

I have no clue what this could be, but do know its not some sort of virus or malware. Im pissed cause I just went through a complete format (zeroed out everything) and am already having problems. Anyone have any suggestions?

Again...are there any troubleshooting suggestions that I need to know about before I completely reformat my computer, yet again??
