Freeze at Startup Win 2000 Pro

I am really in trouble and need some help. The computer starts up, does the bvack and white stuff then displays the Windows 2000 is starting up screen. The progress bar goes to 13 little squares and the progress freezes. Nothing happens at this point. I tried to repair windows using the CD ROM original disk. It won't even go into SAFE mode. When I do F8, the screen displays a bunch of words/files and stops at winnt\system32\mup.sys and then the computer cycles off. I have no idea what to do next. Please help if possible.
Before I tried to repair windows with the cd rom, I was able to get into safe mode. I ran adaware, spybot and virus scan. I took out some S/W I bought yesterday, dedection pro and MS Money. Last nite I did do a windows update and they gave me 4 or 5 new security patches to get me up to date. I have SP4 and all updates installed.
