Free screen recorder for Chrome OS, Windows 11 or Ubuntu

What's the best free screen recorder for Chrome OS? I must record a tab with system audio and video for up to 1.5 hours. The native screen recorder for my Galaxy Chromebook will record video for that long, but it only records audio via the microphone on the laptop. So it's possible to fetch the audio via the laptop or other external speakers, but this method also picks up all the room noise.

There are a number of paid solutions for ChromeOS. I could, for example, upgrade my Screencastify account, I think that's $50/year if I pay by the year. I also have a Windows laptop and an Ubuntu. In order, I could live with recording on the Windows laptop (an X-1 Carbon) or, finally, the Ubuntu machine (an old (circa 2012) Dell gaming laptop that does quite well, except the fan is pretty loud.)

But ideally, I would prefer something free that runs as a Chrome extension like Screencastify.

Thanks so much,
Scott

Thanks, Peter
I actually tried that one on my Chromebook. I enabled Linux apps on my Chromebook and entered all the sudo commands in a terminal, but I got an error message. I'll give it another go, and if it doesn't work, I'll install it on my Windows machine.

The builtin recorder DOES record audio.
Before we start recording, click the gear icon. Here you have a number of options, including recording audio from your microphone, video from the webcam, and where to save the recording.

I think Chromebook won't let you install other programs which are not included in the microsoft store.
That is not correct. I have never been to the Microsoft store because I don't run Win 10 nor 11.
I install apps through googlplay on my chromebook.

On Chrome OS, you must distinguish between Chrome browser extensions from the Chrome Web Store and apps from the Play Store. The latter are Android apps. But on most Chrome OS devices, you can also run Linux apps. That's what I'm going to try with OBS. Note in the attached photo that there's no option for system audio recording in the native screen recorder on the Galaxy Chromebook.

Since my chromebook is not a Galaxy, I can't help with what you see versus what it says you should see.

The audio is off. There should be a way to turn it on, I'd think but I see no toggle for on/off.

Sorry but I haven't dome linux in years so I won't use any linux apps on my chromebook.
Good luck with OBS. If you need help, ask in the linux section not Windows nor android.

Thanks, poldr,
Unfortunately, "off" is not a toggle. You can either input sound from the device microphone or turn all audio input "off." Since most people will pay for Screencastify, etc., it's a way, obviously, of tossing a few sovereigns to the developers for the platform. :)

FYI OBS doesn't work on Chromebook. The developers have intentionally disabled using it because of issues they don't want to fix. You can manage to bypass the conditional check for Chromebook but it doesn't help because it doesn't work.
