Formatting new hard drive...ack!

I have a '97 Gateway that came with Windows95 and a 4 GB hard drive.
The hard drive died. Installed a 20 GB Maxtor drive.
Windows 95 won't let me format the entire drive (just 2 GB sections at a time).
I have the full version of Windows 98, so I formatted the drive with that operating system, but it only recognized 8 GB.
I have since tried the Maxtor II software to format it but that, too, only recognized 8 GB.
I have been assured by Gateway that my BIOS is the latest version for my machine...so it isn't a BIOS problem.

Any idea how I can get my system to recognize the full drive (or at least a good portion of it)???

Thanks...

Not sure which software you used but you will need to use maxblast Plus II and install a bios overlay using the included ezbios
