Ive heard that flash pens only last a certain amount of writes.

Is this true or is there something else that determines how long they last?

Typical FLASH media has a rated life of 100,000 or 1,000,000 writes to a specific location. I think you'll wear out the connectors and several computers before you even approach the end of life for the FLASH chips.
