I have Zone Alarm's free wall, seems fine but makes the connection hesitate.

Possibly a set up issue?

I always used ZA free, but dropped it for Kerio, it's a older version, but work well for me with a router. the new Kerio, does turn free after 30 days, but I like this lite/older version.

Freeware Comodo Firewall Pro is a good choise, if you get no compatibility issues.
