Pretty sure it is not a firewall that is causing the problem. More likely they couldn't figure it out so are blaming it on one.

Also unlikely it is configured to only allow 1/2 of your websites through and block the other 1/2.

So given that, how are you connecting to the Internet, DSL/Cabl, Dialup? Is there a router? How are you getting and IP address assigned. Can you ping external sites by IP but not by Name?

Hi,
Basically he means if you go to start > run > type "cmd" without the quotes, a window will open type ping www.google.com does it work?
Then type ping IP provided for google.

Kind Regards
Anthony

I had that happen to a friend of mine.
It was the firewall that comes with the nForce chipsets.
Took me about a week to figure out it was even on his computer.

you don't NEED one when you are behind a router, because most routers have their own.
I don't have one, I dislike them very much.

key word here is most routers do but not all...and what about people that connect directly to the modem...or those on dialup....

fine i'll tell him if you want one, don't see how it will help though.
download this:
http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/
it's ok to save it to your desktop.
extract it from the zip file.
double click it. select ok. select "none of the above, just start the program"
click scan.
when it is done the scan button will turn into a save log button.
save the log anywhere you want, then copy the entire contents of it in a post here.

I was wondering the same thing, simp.

I'm guessing it might be the Windows Firewall he's using...either that or one of the major one.

Besides, the HJT log will tell us WHAT firewall he's using...once he posts if he doesn't answer.

he probably read that sticky in the security forum that says only people with the shield are allowed to help people with malware removal. I don't count having someone post a hjt log as malware removal. plus i know how to read most of them anyway, expect the new hijacks and such out there, i haven't been keeping up to date.
