Firefox download problems

Dear friends,

I use a Firefox browser, a splendid piece of software except a few minor faults. There is, though, one glitch more substantial--it blocks all downloads in the spasm of paranoia. I tried everything--no success so far. I've gone to the Firefox forums but was unable to leave my question--my computer locked every time I tried. How can I unblock it? I would appreciate any suggestions.

You have me stumped. I have been using Firefox for a long time and I have never had (or heard of) this problem. If you go to the Help icon on the FF browser and click Help Contents, there is a section on the Download manager and how to use it. Nowhere do I see an option to block downloads.
I would suggest that you uninstall Firefox -control panel -add/remove - go to C: program files and remove the Mozilla folder- go to My Computer - click on C drive- documents and settings - your name -application data- delete the Mozilla folder (it is your profile). Download and re-install Firefox v. l.0.
Drastic, but I don't know what else will work.

Are you sure it is FireFox blocking the downloads and not a firewall? Can you download with Internet Explorer?

Yes, I'm sure. Yes, I can download with IE.
