So my copy of Firefox 2.0 just updated itself to 2.0.0.1 automatically. It reloads, and it tells me it's disabled my Java console because version 6.0 apparently isn't compatible. So now I have no Java. Brilliant.

I don't want to downgrade because of the security issues, and you'd think anyway that the latest version of Firefox would be compatible with the latest version of Java .

Is this a known issue, or has something gone wacky with my installation? I'm surprised I haven't seen more complaints if the former is the case.

Thanks.

It is a bit confusing. I updated FF too and got a similar message, but I was already using java 1.6.0 and it continues to work just fine. You can check yours by navigating to www.java.com and there you can verify what version you are using. You can also see Duke. :)

Hey yeah I am having the same problem.. Makes me wonder now is their any other good alternative browsers since it appears firefox wont get the best quality with Java anymore. With streaming video firefox used to get better quality then IE.. Guess not anymore..

That message is misleading, that refers to the java control panel. Java will work in Firefox,
I just updated to Java 6 update 2 and it works perfectly. Just keep your Firefox updated
and update Java and you will be OK.
