Hello,

I have recently installed Windows XP Professional w/ SP2 + done windows update. I will call this 'Computer A'.

I have another PC with a shared folder on it (not using simple file sharing). I will call this 'Computer B'.

When I try accessing the share from 'Computer A' to 'Computer B', I am unable to find the share. "The network connection cannot be reached"

Now I have a laptop (not a fresh install) which I will call 'Computer C'. When I try accessing the share I am prompted for my authentication information on the share and everything works fine.

I've tried disabling firewalls still with no luck.

All the computers are on the same network connected to a DSL Router.
Computer A---| |
Computer B---|Router|Modem->Internet
Computer C---| |

All of the Computers are running Windows XP Professional SP2.
I've been trying to access the share by:
Start-->Run--> typing: \\Computer B's Address

Does anyone have any idea what could be preventing 'Computer A' from accessing the share? I have spent some time tweaking settings so perhaps I over tweaked? I'd rather not have to reinstall, as well I would prefer to know whats wrong.

So yeah anyone has any ideas please let me know.

Thanks :)

Well I figured it out.

I didnt realize port 445 was needed for outgoing as well. I figured fileshares would be like PASV ftp or something.

Anyway I re enabled port 445 and everything works. Why port 135 doesnt work I'm not sure. (I had left it open).

Thanks for the reply: schusterjo

i believe home networking setup is for simple filesharing. In any case no i had not run it. (no need now either).

Thanks
