Hello all:

For many years, I used my company's PC. The OS of the PC is winXP. Later, company needed to reclaim the PCs. Before handing the PC back, I copy all the DATA of mine into a big hard-disc.

To some reasons now the data, files and folders, in the big hard-disk are encrypted/locked. I neither can not read them, nor copy them to another place.

These data are my important work results. Who can help me to deenscry/unlock them.

As unfair as it may seem, In many cases any work that you perform for or on behalf of a company as part of your job becomes the intellectual property of the company. I'm not sure whether or not you will receive assistance since the files were locked/encrypted for a reason. I've lost hours of code that I wrote for this same reason. I've known several people who have had the same thing happen to prevent them from copying customer contact data from the company when they changed jobs.

Yeah, but who's to say a screenshot saved as a BMP or JPG can't be copied? Or better yet, pen and paper. I know "disgruntled" ex-employees that have done this.

I agree wholeheartedly. I don't think we can legally advise this guy on how to recover the company's data. Will check with a mod.

Closed since this seems to be an attempt to hack company proprietary data. Even though you may have done the work, it belongs to the company; not you.

For future reference

if the company were using file encryption on the pc which is inbuilt to XP pro and normally enabled by default in corporate situations then you would have had to turn off encryption BEFORE copying the files as teh encryption makes the files only readable on that PC
