File search functionality gone

913 Views 3 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  eddie5659
After manually cleaning a trojan from my machine, I can no longer do a file search from Windows explorer.exe nor from the Start menu. Both offer Search, but nothing happens when the choice is clicked. I'm running w2k server sp4 and msie 6.0.

Is there a way to restore the search functionality short of re-installing w2k server?

Hiya and welcome

Lets take at look at a log first of all:

go to www.spychecker.com/program/hijackthis.html , and download 'Hijack This!'.
Unzip, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log somewhere, and please copy & paste its contents to the forum.

It will possibly show other issues deserving our attention, but most of what it lists will be harmless or even required, so do NOT fix anything yet.
Someone here will be happy to help you analyze the results.

Regards

Thanks, Eddie. I've done the Hijack this log thing. Mobo offered the same advice and instructed me to email the log back, but techguy email has a 2000 word limit and that required me to cut the log into 5 chunks and 5 emails. Is there a way to attach a file to techguy email?
