First, please tell me if I am in the wrong forum.

I am looking for an application that can find and remove duplicate files. Would anyone be willing to make a recommendation??

Hi,
Others may make suggestions but I'm sure you know that with all those Registry cleaners..be careful you do not overclean your Registry and come to regret it.
Registry cleaners should be used with caution and always back up your registry before deleting what it says are invalid entries.
What's called invalid may be what your system needs to run correctly.
Not lecturing, but based on my own experience.

While he is not asking for a registry cleaner, just a programme to find and remove duplicate files, this programme actually is a registry cleaner but it has other options too, one of which (duplicates) is exactly what you want. It's small, easy and free.

There are lots of free file duplication finders, I have several myself. Just do a Google search. (I am not talking about registry tools, just file dupe finders.)

You might want to be a bit cautious about just blindly removing any found duplicates, sometimes file duplication is necessary, also you may delete the one file, of the two or more you found, that was actually needed.

When you do find a file dupe finder program, be sure that it also compares the file attributes like file date and time, also that it can compare the bytes of a file as well. All that is important when trying to find true file duplication.

Hey guys...I really appreciate your replies and suggestions....This site is really amazing and, although I haven't posted that much, my experience here has been that the replies that are received are ALWAYS HELPFUL!!

Although I wasn't asking for a registry cleaner I do appreciate that advice as well....it certainly never hurts to hear from experienced users when they warn of possibly dangerous attempts to tweak things a little too much.....

I have searched Google for duplicate file finders/deleters and I found so many choices that I thought "I'd better ask for some advice from more experienced users!!"\

So, I will definitely try the recommended app and if I need more help I know where to ask for it!!!

Just make sure you don't delete anything out of C:\WINDOWS or C:\I386 and don't delete anything that might be a Windows file. Windows has a whole bunch of duplicates that need to stay where they are.
