Hey all,

Dropped my Asus eee netbook XP/Linux box the other day.
Added a new admin user to get it connected w/ vista laptop via crossover cable.
Had some problems after that & some hard reboots finally ending in the "File is missing or corrupt: C:\Windows\System32\Config\System" on boot .
Tried getting access thru Linux, boot no problem but could not get to that dir.
Removed Seagate :( drive from netbook & connected to vista box via usb.
Ran chkdsk /x from cmd & let run all night. FAIL with lack of disk space. Tried to find the failed chkdsk files w/o luck.
Read about chkdsk on this site & will NEVER use it again

Read about rebuilding hives on this site but there are only 2 files in the netbook drive's System Volume Information dir....

I can get my data off the drive :)

Is there any hope to revive the XP OS?

TIA

Could be the Hard drive got damaged when dropped. and check disk is fine as long as not to much wrong with the Hard drive.

Get all your data off you want first then put it on the other PC move some files for room and run chkdsk /r /x

I would also try Seagate tools and test the drive.

Go > here < and under Utilities choose your Operating System and download

run the program and do a Basic test.
