Faulty Power Supply

I was playing Black Ops Cold War when suddenly my PC shut off and kept trying to restart but couldn't. I rebooted the PC and after a couple attempts I loaded into windows, however it shut off again when I tried running Black Ops. I assumed it was my old HD that was causing the problem because it had been making clicking sounds for about a month. Eventually I was able to run games again with no issue until my PC shut off again, however this time the entire power supply was cut out. I ordered a new SSD and it hasn't arrived yet, but I'm now worried that the problem was the power supply or maybe the HD damaged the power supply, so I'm worried if i install the new SSD it might get fried. Any suggestions would be a great help. Thank you

The HD wouldn't affect the power supply. The power supply could be failing, and a faulty power supply can effect other hardware. Having said that, shut downs on their own, aren't a clear sign of a power supply issue. The only real way to know for sure is to swap out the power supply.

If you can boot into the bios, check your voltages; specifically 12V, 5V, and 3.3V values. Let it run in the bios for a few min and observe the readings. See if they go up and down. The ONLY voltage that should vary would be vcore or cpu voltage and not one of the three referenced above.

It would really help if you posted ALL of your exact system specs. You are posting in a hardware forum and no one has any idea what hardware you are running. Do not post "500W pw supply" Post the exact brand and model# Do that for ALL of your parts.
