just replaced power pack on a hp pavillion 733mhz celeron old psu has a wire that goes onto the motherboard next to the plug for main power on the plug at end of the wire it say's FANC [its not on the new psu] wot is it and is it the reason why it wont boot past the hp screen or enter the bios setup

Hi,

FanC is refering to Fan Control - It allows the motherboard to control the speed. I am not sure but I doubt if this is stopping your machine booting up.

Suggest that you check all connections - even ide leads that may have been disturbed.
